Jan Novák (1921 Nová Říše - 1984 Neu Ulm) was a pianist and one of the most outstanding Czech composers of the second half of the 20th century. He was a graduate of the Brno Conservatory, a student of Vilém Petrželka, Pavel Bořkovec, Aaron Copland and Bohuslav Martinů. After 1968, he chose a free life in exile and his wife and daughters followed him there. He spent the height of his creative period in the town of Riva near Lake Garda and later in Ulm in Germany. During his emigration, Novák’s music was forbidden in Czechoslovakia.

Performed by mixed choirs, Ars Brunensis Chorus, Žerotín Academic Choir and Brno Academic Choir. These established musical ensembles have achieved a high artistic level, have long developed a strong tradition of choral singing and are now meeting for the final concert of this year's festival.
